Global Easts

Introduction

The Global Easts Consortium proposes a ‘Global Easts’ discourse that moves beyond the traditional ‘East’ and ‘West’ dichotomy. Our core agenda is to dismantle Western-centric biases within the context of global complexity and to foster equal collaboration between Western and non-Western academic communities.

Global Easts refers to a trans-peripheral problem space where the ‘East’ has been perceived as underdeveloped compared to the developed ‘West’ within the modern world system. This perception has shaped our historical imagination under the influence of Eurocentric Orientalism. The East-West divide transcends simple geographical boundaries, constantly shifting and being reconstructed within historical discourse. Although nationalist and Marxist historiographies have challenged Eurocentrism, the discourse that positions the West as the universal standard of ‘History’ persists.

The Global Easts Consortium’s agenda is clear: to experiment with and build a new spatial discourse called ‘Global Easts’ that goes beyond the traditional ‘Global South’ and ‘Global North’ by fundamentally repositioning and reimagining Eastern Europe and East Asia within the context of global history.
