World War II is a coined expression to refer to this long and bloody war. But what does it really mean? This presentation will first question the universal character of this denomination. It will then reflect on the chronological limits of this conflict, then will consider its universal character in ideological terms. Finally, it will focus on an important issue: has the conduct of the war been global, or whether each belligerent first favored its own theater of operations at the expense of its allies.
